China's Gansu Province Boosts New Energy Industry with Smart Battery Projects

Gansu is intensifying its investment in the new energy industry. Recently, Jiuquan City's Panke Zhirui Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. secured environmental impact assessment approval for its 4GWh Sodium-ion Battery Smart Integration and Ancillary Industry Manufacturing Project (Phase I). Located in the Jiuquan Economic and Technological Development Zone (South Park), Gansu Province, the project boasts a total investment of RMB 600 million, encompassing cell factories, energy storage accessory factories, smart integration factories, among others.

It is known that the Panke Zhirui Sodium-ion Battery project has an overall investment of RMB 1.4 billion, planned in two phases. Phase I, with an investment of RMB 600 million, aims to construct a 4GWh Sodium-ion Smart Integration System, energy storage BMS system, PCS system, and liquid-cooled energy storage cabinets, among others, while establishing the country's first national laboratory for "Sodium-ion Batteries in High-altitude and Cold Regions." Phase II, with an investment of RMB 800 million, will focus on constructing 4GWh Sodium-ion battery materials, cells, and smart integration projects.

Huijue has observed that in addition to the Panke Zhirui project, multiple battery projects worth over RMB 10 billion have been launched or commenced in Gansu this year.

In July, a high-performance lithium-ion battery anode material project with a total investment of RMB 3 billion was signed in the Lanzhou New Area New Material Industrial Park, aiming to build a production base with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons of high-performance lithium-ion battery anode materials.

In June, the Guanghe New Energy 4GWh Sodium-ion Energy Storage Battery Equipment Manufacturing Project kicked off in Min County Industrial Park, Gansu Dingxi, with a total investment of RMB 1.5 billion. Meanwhile, the Jueshi New Energy 5GWh Sodium-ion Battery Manufacturing Project received approval from the Zhangye Economic and Technological Development Zone Economic Development Bureau, and the Jingding Xuyang New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.'s 5GWh Energy Storage Sodium-ion Battery Base Project in Liangzhou District commenced construction.

In May, the Jinchang City 10GWh Sodium-ion Battery Base Project, with a total investment of RMB 3.5 billion, was publicly tendered. The Wuwei City Liangzhou District 2GWh Energy Storage Sodium-ion Battery Base Project, with a total investment of RMB 2.5 billion, invited investments. Phase I, with an investment of RMB 1 billion, plans to construct a 2GWh Sodium-ion battery production line, while Phase II, with an investment of RMB 1.5 billion, aims to build a 3GWh energy storage Sodium-ion battery production line.

In April, the Dunhuang Fangcun New Energy Co., Ltd.'s 5GWh Sodium-ion Battery Project (Phases I & II), with a total investment of RMB 2 billion, landed in Dunhuang City, Gansu Province. Additionally, the Zhongna Energy Storage Gansu Base, with a planned capacity of 6.2GWh and a total investment of approximately RMB 1 billion, was completed and put into operation. Phase I plans to produce 3GWh of energy storage production lines and 1GWh of lithium battery production lines annually, while Phase II aims to construct a 2.2GWh graphene sodium-ion battery cell production line.

In March, the Shanghai Panke 4GWh Sodium-ion Battery Manufacturing and Ancillary Industry Project, with a total investment of RMB 1.4 billion, commenced in Jiuquan Economic and Technological Development Zone, Gansu.
